HISPANIC BUSINESS INITIATIVE FUND
INTERNSHIP PROGRAM
The Hispanic Business Initiative Fund (HBIF) is seeking interns for the SUMMER 2010 and FALL 2010 semesters. HBIF is the leading Hispanic nonprofit economic development organization that specializes in providing free bilingual assistance to Hispanic entrepreneurs establishing or expanding their business in Florida.
HBIF strives to provide a professional learning environment for students seeking an internship.
INTERNSHIP DESCRIPTION
The internship program at HBIF is best suited for students whose majors are business, economics, or marketing. The organization offers business consulting services to Hispanic entrepreneurs in Florida and most of the work involved is business related.
In addition, it is important for the student to be proficient in Spanish since the organization’s clientele is predominantly Hispanic, with a substantial number speaking little English. There will be many instances in which Spanish is needed during client meetings, orientation sessions and telephone interviews.
Computer skills are a requirement as the student will be researching online, updating databases, calculating attendance and writing press releases and letters in English and in Spanish.
The student also will be involved in event planning, seminar coordination and may be required to help develop media kits, sponsorship packages, invitations and introduction letters for the organization’s two major yearly fundraising events.
Other tasks will include shadowing a Business Development Specialist in the process of assisting clients with their business needs and attending networking sessions of key community partner organizations.
